Our People
We are Kanien’kehá:ka, one of the founding nations of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, the People of the Longhouse. Our ancestors have lived on this land for countless generations, guided by the Kaianere’kó:wa | the Great Law of Peace.
Kanehsatà:ke has always been a place of gathering, learning, and resilience. Our families, ceremonies, and community life keep our culture alive every day.

Our Land
Kanehsatà:ke means “the place where the crusty sand dunes are.” Our traditional land stretches across hills, pine forests, and rivers that sustain life and memory. Long before borders or towns, our people walked here, lived here, and continue to protect this land for future generations. We honour the relationship between people and the natural world through care, respect, and stewardship.

Our Culture and Language
Kanien’kéha, our language, carries our worldview, our humor, and our values. Through our efforts in cultural and language revitalization, Kanehsatà:ke is strengthening Kanien’kéha learning, promoting cultural pride, and ensuring that our traditions remain at the heart of community life.
Our Tsi Ronterihwanónhnha ne Kanien’kéha | Language and Culture Center is where the language breathes and grows, through classes, cultural workshops, and events that connect youth, adults, and Elders in the spirit of learning and sharing.
